We all know that apple cider vinegar is a health food. It’s good for your gut bacteria, and helps with digestive issues. It’s one of those things that’s just seems to have made it’s way into every health “nut” out there’s pantry. And for good reason.

Health Benefits of ACV
Apple Cider Vinegar is Rich in Acetic Acid: Results of a research study in Japan suggest that acetic acid may help control blood pressure and fat accumulation. Investigators in Europe looked at the influence of sodium acetate and acetic acid on blood glucose and other biological responses to a mixed meal in healthy subjects.

Has Cancer-Fighting Properties: A study was done in China, where they discovered that vegetable and vinegar consumption reduced the risk of oesophageal cancer. However, it’s effectiveness seems specific to certain types of cancers as it can increase the growth of bladder cancer by 4.4x.

Lowers Bad Cholesterol and Prevent Cardiovascular Disease: Apple cider vinegar can help lower because it contains chlorogenic acids that help lower LDL or bad cholesterol, preventing it from accumulating and crystalizing in the bloodstream.

This study was only on rodents though, so it’s also a good idea to balance a healthy diet to keep low LDL levels.
Research Says That Apple Cider Vinegar Can Help Type-2 Diabetics Improve Insulin Sensitivity
In a study done by the American Diabetes Association in 2004,

3 groups of people were given a concoction of 20 grams apple cider vinegar, 40 grams of water and a teaspoon of saccharine and after 2 minutes were given a meal that consisted of a white bagel, orange juice, and butter.
These 3 groups include people with type 2 diabetes and non-diabetic individuals who are either insulin sensitive (these are control subjects) or insulin resistant. 29 people in all participated in the study.
In a world filled with so many toxins, we should all be taking precautionary measures by incorporating protective foods into our diets. We’ve discussed many of the sources of toxins in previous articles so we won’t be overly redundant in this article.

Candida overgrowth occurs often when a person has a poor diet, high in refined sugar and carbohydrates, and it can take over when the gut flora compromised by antibiotic use or birth control.

Don’t Use Apple Cider Vinegar If You Use Any of These Medications!
We all know that apple cider vinegar provides many health benefits and can treat a number of medical issues, right?

However, when combined with some medications, apple cider vinegar can cause side effects and lead to serious problems.
Taking apple cider vinegar interacts with certain medications can lower the potassium levels in the organism.
If you are taking any of these medications, you should not combine them with apple cider vinegar.

Digoxin or Lanoxin
This medication is used for treating heart diseases. Combined with this medication, apple cider vinegar can obstruct the absorption of potassium in the organism, thus increasing the risk of side effects such as mood swings, vomiting, vision problems, dizziness, and diarrhea.
Diuretics – Diuril, Lasix, Microzidea and Thalitone
These medications are usually used in the treatment of bloating since they stimulate the body to remove the accumulated liquids.
Potassium can maintain the balance of water in the body. As we said before, apple cider vinegar lowers the levels of potassium, which will result in dehydration.

Insulin is a medication used to balance the blood sugar levels in the body and it is usually used by diabetics.
Even though apple cider vinegar can control the blood sugar levels, some studies showed that you should never take it in combination with insulin. The combination of these two can significantly lower the potassium and blood sugar levels.
Be very careful while using apple cider vinegar. The long term use of ACV can cause low potassium levels in the body, thus leading to other health problems. For instance, consuming 8 oz. of ACV a day for a few years can cause osteoporosis!

Other Groups of People Who Should Not Use Apple Cider Vinegar
Pregnant women and breastfeeding mothers
Pregnant women are recommended to avoid taking ACV since there are not enough evidence how ACV affects the body and the fetus during pregnancy.
Breastfeeding mothers should also avoid apple cider vinegar because it can have a negative effect on the newborns.
Postmenopausal women
Postmenstrual women are more likely to have reduced bones density. As we said before, apple cider vinegar lowers the potassium levels in the body. This means that the high amounts of ACV can lead to osteoporosis.

Those suffering from diabetes should be very careful when taking apple cider vinegar. Apple cider vinegar lowers the levels of blood sugar, so if you are taking medications just adjust them if you want to include apple cider vinegar.
Insulin and apple cider vinegar can lower the potassium levels in the body. In other words, taking the apple cider vinegar and insulin simultaneously can lower the potassium levels in the body extremely!
