Is Pokemon Go Healthy Or Deadly For You?

You want to be the best like no one ever was!
The new GPS augmented reality game Pokemon Go is happening across the nation. According to Matt Hoffman, clinical assistant professor , the quest to “catch ’em all” is very good news for public health.

I will travel across the world, searching far and wide!

Players, known as Pokemon “trainers,” download this game to their phones. To progress in the game, they must walk around the land to find and to catch Pokémon and access specific spots called Pokéstops. There,  Pokéballs and other useful items can be  collected. The Poké eggs are among the things that they can collect at those locations. Getting to the stops, catching different Pokémon and hatch the eggs requires  lots of walking.

“Playing the game is very fun, and it has been a catalyst to get people walking,” said the professor who has been called the “Pokémon Professor” by his coworkers.

“What began as just playing the game is a hobby for me and provides  health benefits,” Hoffman continued. “I’ve spent an hour or two, or even more at a time venturing around  to find Pokéstops. Also,to hatch an egg, a trainer must walk anywhere from four to six miles. There’s no doubt that I am exercising more as a result of playing this game, and I am really enjoying it.”

The professor isn’t alone. The number of Pokémon Go daily users is from 10 to 21 million people. This user base is growing every day. So, this means that playing Pokémon Go may have additional benefits.

Pokemon gotta catch ’em all!

“The game is bringing people together, closer, providing an opportunity for social interaction. Increase our sense of belonging, and exactly that can have a positive impact on our physical, emotional and mental health.”

“The game is relatively non-violent and I have seen families walking around playing all together,” Hoffman said.
“It encourages parents to go outside and communicate with their children while they are playing. Pokémon Go has the ability to transport people away from  the couch to walk around their neighborhood and maybe far.”

You teach me and I will teach you Pokemon!

“Playing the game has even broadened the sense of curiosity and knowledge about the local community. The game has led me to some areas that I haven’t explored till now, or, previously only had driven through,” he said.
“I have met new people while playing the game. I also enjoy seeing the variation in the character designs and their abilities.”

Come with me, the time is right, there is no better team than ours!

Multiply the number of the Pokemon game players by the number of kilometers they must travel to make some progress in the game, and some chances of negative consequences increase. “We may hear of people falling off curbs or sustaining some injuries as a result of staring at their mobile phones. They didn’t pay attention to their surrounding,”. “We should always keep safety and best practices in mind.”

Professor Hoffman emphasized players to watch where they walk and to be aware of their surrounding while playing. He also encourages playing with their friends as a team.

“However, you should never play Pokemon Go while driving. Try to avoid playing in dark, isolated areas because there have been reports of players being robbed and attacked,” he said.
“Also, summer days are very hot, you should use sunscreen and drink enough water before heading outside.  If you are one of the millions playing Pokémon Go, we hope you catch ’em all!”
