Olive oil is tasty, healthy and nutritious product that we should use it in the diet in a proper way.
Those who regularly use it, think that they know everything about it. However, it is not so.
Here are the most common misconceptions regarding the olive oil:
*Olive oil from the store is always fresh
Although well stored, olive oil from imports, which we find in stores is often old and up to three years. Unlike wine, olive oil does not rule that the older it is the better. Think of it as a squeezed juice of the olive, which is better to spend while fresh. If you want to be sure of what you eat, buy oil, which has designated the year of harvest.
*Use quality olive oil for salads and cheaper for cooking
It is completely wrong. What is the oil more quality and fresher it is more resistant to high temperature. Also, cooking does not lose its quality, and food will be far tastier and healthier and thus prepared.
*Olive oil should be stored only in glass bottle
This thesis is only partly true. Storing oil in a glass bottle is good, but it must be of dark glass, because the oil reacts to light that it changes the structure and thereby loses its quality.
*Olive oil should be kept on the table that is always close at hand
Another common misconception. Olive oil is best kept in the cupboard. The reason is that the light does not foster this foodstuff. It alters the structure of the oil, thus it loses quality.
*In the olive oil should not be fried food
Another wrong information. Research has shown that quality oil does not change the structure and up to 200 degrees Celsius, which means that it can freely be used for frying fresh foods. Olive oil exposed to high temperatures behaves far better than all other oils from households, due to the high content of oleic acid.
*Olive oil does not have a lot of calories
Wrong! Although it is very healthy and nutritious, and olive oil is oil. It contains a large amount of calories but, unlike the vegetable oils or fats, there is a low level of cholesterol (bad fat). Also, it is a powerful antioxidant with high nutritional value at which the body will be grateful.
*Good olive oil has a mild taste
While the lovers of oil immediately agree with it, you need to know how the clean, high-quality and fresh olive oil is actually very intense and pungent. It has a bitter taste that slightly “burns” the tongue which may not suit everyone, especially if you’re accustomed to purchasing refined oil.
