Back pain is a common problem that affects most people at some point in their life. For some people, back pain is simply an annoyance. For others, it can be excruciating and disabling.
Backache is most common in the lower back, although it can be felt anywhere along your spine, from your neck down to your hips.
The causes of back pain are numerous. Some are self-inflicted due to a lifetime of bad habits. Other back pain causes include accidents, muscle strains, and sports injuries.
Natural Remedies for Fast Back Pain Relief
People with back pain need higher doses of omega-3 fats to help reduce inflammation. One of the best sources of omega-3s is krill oil supplement. The omega-3 fats contained in krill oil have been found in many animal and clinical studies to have anti-inflammatory properties (1).
A study of osteoarthritis patients revealed curcumin’s pain relief effects: individuals who added 200 milligrams of curcumin a day to their treatment plan were found to have reduced pain and increased mobility. Over 50 clinical studies have proven curcumin’s potent anti-inflammatory activity.
Cayenne cream (capsaicin cream), this is a spice made from dried hot peppers. It alleviates pain by depleting the body’s supply of substance P, a chemical component of nerve cells that transmits pain signals to your brain (2).
Magnesium (400-500 mg daily)
This mineral is sometimes called the “relaxation mineral” because it helps relax muscles and reduce stress. Decrease the dosage of magnesium if it causes diarrhea .
Peppermint and wintergreen oil are effective analgesics that cool inflamed joints and reduce backache. You can mix these oils with coconut oil and rub onto joints or make a homemade muscle rub (3).
Most back pain goes away on its own in four to six weeks. Call your doctor if your back pain hasn’t improved after a week of home treatment or if your back pain:
- Is constant or intense, especially at night or when you lie down
- Spreads down one or both legs, especially if the pain extends below your knee
- Causes weakness, numbness or tingling in one or both legs
- Occurs with unintended weight loss
- Occurs with swelling or redness on your back.
